Data Preparation

Prepare your data and make the first upload successful

Most failed generations come from data structure, not from the prompt. Run through this checklist, or start from a sample file that is already clean.

Recommended

  • Use clear, descriptive column names
  • Keep only one header row
  • Use consistent date, currency and percentage formats
  • Put each metric in its own column
  • Remove blank rows and repeated total rows

Avoid

  • Merged cells
  • Multi-level headers or several tables in one sheet
  • Mixed date formats or units in the same column
  • Images instead of structured data
  • Large empty blocks in the middle of the data

Common upload problems

Six issues cover almost every failed upload. Check the cause, apply the fix, then re-upload.

The file will not upload

Cause: Unsupported type, oversized workbook, or a password-protected file.

Fix: Re-save as .xlsx or .csv without protection, then upload again.

Related FAQ

Columns are recognized incorrectly

Cause: Merged cells, multi-level headers, or several tables in one sheet.

Fix: Keep one header row, one table per sheet and one metric per column.

Related FAQ

The data format is inconsistent

Cause: Mixed date formats, currency symbols or units inside numeric columns.

Fix: Normalize each column to a single format before uploading.

Related FAQ

The chart result is inaccurate

Cause: Total rows counted as data, or duplicated records in the export.

Fix: Remove total and subtotal rows, then de-duplicate the raw table.

Related FAQ

The file is too large

Cause: Hundreds of thousands of rows or many unused sheets and styles.

Fix: Aggregate to the level you actually chart, and delete unused sheets.

Related FAQ

Required fields are missing

Cause: No date column, no metric column, or no category to group by.

Fix: Add the missing dimension or metric column before generating.

Troubleshooting and FAQs

Recover quickly from the first failure. Search the issue, read the short answer, then follow the detailed guide.

Check the file type and size first — Excel (.xlsx), CSV and pasted tables are supported directly. PDFs and images must be extracted into a table before upload. Password-protected or corrupted workbooks fail silently, so re-save the file and try again.
